Why I Will Vote For Rick Perry For Governor

I wrote a positive piece on Debra Medina the other day because I like the idea of citizens that are not career politicians running for office, but there are reasons I think her time hasn't come quite yet. I know this will not make the Medina crowd very happy, and I do like her, but bear with me.

Who Is Debra Medina?

The Texas Tribune is asking if she is a spoiler. I'm sure she doesn't see it that way. She may force a runoff in the Republican primary, but is that such a bad thing? The more we know about our candidates, the better.

One thing I do know about Medina is that is her work ethic is amazing. She is everywhere, all the time. Having a meeting? She's there. Having a Tea Party? She's there.

Gov. Perry Defending State Rights

On December 23rd, Governor Rick Perry of Texas  sent this letter regarding the Health Care bill to the Governor of Alabama, and from what I understand, to other state governors as well. It says in part:

Top Tier One universities fail core curricula test

One of the loudest arguments we're hearing in favor of Proposition 4 is that if the state of Texas has more Tier One research universities, the quality of higher education will improve. The American Council of Trustees and Alumni has been working on a project, the results of which appear to contradict the idea that research universities provide an inherently superior education to students.

Why Texans Should Vote NO on Prop 4

I've held back on this because I wanted to give readers a chance to read the initial analysis of Proposition 4. There are a lot of arguments out there in favor of it (the Fort Worth Star-Telegram has their endorsement here). I think you need to know, Prop. 4 is a bad idea.

Tort Reform In Texas Could Teach Washington a Lesson

In yesterday's Washington Post, Peggy Venable tells Pres. Obama that he need not just "try" some pilot programs on tort reform in states, as he proposed in his health care speech, he need look no further than Texas. Texas passed tort reform in 1995 and passed even better reform in 2003 and 2005. Has it made a difference? I would say so:

Meet Ted Cruz

I had been hearing about this young handsome attorney in the Texas Attorney General's office for a while. He as been solicitor general for over five years. Last night I finally had the pleasure of listening to and meeting Ted Cruz, who is now running for Attorney General of Texas. I'm writing a profile on Mr. Cruz for Texas Magazine. I'll let you know when that issue will be coming out.
